Roberta’s Living Room
A magical-realist short film about a woman planting a garden in her living room… in pursuit of the most ideal death!
Executive Producer | Ursula Romero
Writer/Director | Judy K Suh
Producers | Grace Hahn & Judy K Suh
This short film was a combination of influences: an image by photographer Gregory Crewdson, a fact I learned about plants breathing in oxygen at night, Magical Realist author Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s works… and a number of elements from my personal life.
A long process of writing and rewriting the script took place before anything happened. It wasn’t until 2016, after I won a screenplay contest, that I decided I’d seriously pursue making this short film. Of course, this had to be done completely independently.
By some mighty strike of luck, I was at FEST film festival in Portugal, where I met and pitched my short film to Ursula Romero. She eventually became the executive producer for it. In 2017, with an amazing cast, crew and post-production team, I was able to bring this story to life. By 2018, the film was complete, followed by an amazing run in film festivals around the world during 2018-2019.
The film is now under distribution deal with Spanish company, FEELSALES.
